All meetings are held at the Leicester Adult
Education College, Wellington Street, Leicester, commencing at 7pm
unless otherwise stated. The
speaker will normally commence at 7.30pm. Meetings are free to
Branch Members, but visitors are requested to donate £1.50
towards the expenses of the meeting. No meetings are held during January and February

Sports and Pastimes' – a talk by the secretary of the
Lincolnshire branch Jean Townsend on how people would have spent
their leisure time during the reign of Richard III. Many of the
games and sports we still play today have their roots in medieval
England. |

Pilgrims and Pilgrimages' – Peter Liddle, the Archaeologist at
Leicestershire County Council will tell us how local people
travelled to shrines such as Canterbury, Walsingham and Windsor.
Discoveries of Pilgrim badges and other relics they brought back
with them have established this. |

and Packroads' – Wendy Freer, an Adult Education Lecturer will
remind us of the method of transport used during the medieval
period. She will also enlighten us on how animals were prepared
for the long drive to distant markets and how travellers found
their way across desolate moors. |

our Chairman, Richard Smith, has kindly agreed to guide us on
another walk. Lincoln, Warwick, or somewhere else you think is

The
North Mercia Group was newly formed in March of 2010. We are
a dozen or so enthusiastic Ricardians from South Cheshire, North
Staffordshire, and North Shropshire who meet in members' homes at 2pm on 2nd
Saturday of the month. Our meetings take the form of talks by members
on a variety of Ricardian topics, book discussions, watching and discussing
videos and social events including visits to sites of Ricardian or
