
1990s
The Fotheringhay Cope
In
1990 the Society launched an appeal to raise funds for the provision
of a cope for Fotheringhay.
The
blue silk damask cope was embroidered with several shields including
those of England, Scotland, the Society and the sees of Canterbury and
Peterborough.
Leicester Plaque
In 1990 HRH the Duke of Gloucester unveiled a
plaque in Leicester to mark King Richard's burial place following his
death at the Battle of Bosworth.
Arms of Richard III
In 1993, following the purchase of Crosby Hall
by businessman Christopher Moran, the Society removed the Arms of Richard
III, that had been installed in the Hall in 1983, to Warwick Castle.
Whitefriars, Norwich
1999
The plaque commemorates Lady Eleanor Talbot,
who was buried at the Carmelite Priory, Norwich, in 1468. It was unveiled
on Saturday 31 July 1999, by Dr Oliver Rackham, Praelector of Corpus
Christi College Cambridge (the college of which Lady Eleanor was a benefactress),
in the presence of the Sheriff of Norfolk, the Father Provincial and
other representatives of the Carmelite Order, the Precentor of Norwich
Cathedral, and representatives of the Talbot Society, including descendants
of Lady Eleanor’s family. The plaque, showing Lady Eleanor’s dimidiated
arms as the widow of Sir Thomas Butler (Butler of Sudeley impaling Talbot)
was designed by John Ashdown-Hill.
