Whitefriars, Norwich 1999

The plaque commemorates Lady Eleanor Talbot, who was buried at the Carmelite Priory, Norwich, in 1468. It was unveiled on Saturday 31 July 1999, by Dr Oliver Rackham, Praelector of Corpus Christi College Cambridge (the college of which Lady Eleanor was a benefactress), in the presence of the Sheriff of Norfolk, the Father Provincial and other representatives of the Carmelite Order, the Precentor of Norwich Cathedral, and representatives of the Talbot Society, including descendants of Lady Eleanor’s family. The plaque, showing Lady Eleanor’s dimidiated arms as the widow of Sir Thomas Butler (Butler of Sudeley impaling Talbot) was designed by John Ashdown-Hill.
