Leicester Statue
In
1980 a statue commissioned by the Society and executed by James Butler
RA was unveiled by HRH Princess Alice of Gloucester in Leicester. Earlier
in the year HRH The Duke of Gloucester had become the Society's Patron.
Guildhall Dinner, City of London
In
1983, as part of the quincentenary celebrations of Richard's accession
the Society held a Dinner at the Guildhall, London. Guests of honour
included the Society's patron, HRH The Duke of Gloucester and the Duke
of Norfolk.
Conservation of the tomb of Prince Edward at
Sheriff Hutton, Yorkshire
In 1985 the Society's fund raising arm, the Ricardian
Churches Restoration Fund, undertook the conservation of the tomb of
King Richard's son, Edward of Middleham. The alabaster tomb is in Sheriff
Hutton church, Yorkshire.
The Society Grant of Arms
In
1989 the Society received its Grant of Arms from The College of Arms.
Heralds had been part of the Royal Household since the 13th century
but it was during King Richard's reign that the College was constituted
into a corporation.
Today
there are thirteen members of the Corporation, three Kings of Arms,
six heralds and four pursuivants. They are all members of the Royal
Household and appointed by the Crown.
