Barton Library

Audio-Visual

This section of the Library contains audio and video tapes and DVDs of radio and television programmes, films, recorded lectures and music.

It is provided for the benefit of all members of the Society, non-members may be allowed to use the collection at the discretion of the Librarian, on payment of a small fee.

There are separate catalogues for audio tapes and for video tapes, and in each catalogue the items are listed in chronological order grouped under headings as follows:-

Audio tapes: Broadcasts from radio and television programmes; Lectures and Symposia; Drama (subdivided into Shakespearean and Modern); Music

Video tapes and DVDs: Television programmes; Drama (subdivided into Shakespearean and Modern)

As duplicates exist only for the more popular items please give an alternative choice where possible, and if you need the items for a specific date such as a branch/group meeting please reserve them in good time before the meeting.  Compilation tapes on particular themes can be prepared, but please give plenty of advance notice for this service.

When ordering please print your full name, address and postcode in block capitals, and also the full title of the item you wish to borrow, and send your requests to the Audio-Visual Librarian:

Postage: the borrower is responsible for both outward and return postage – please do not send any money when making the request, but note the amount from the stamps used on the wrapping, and enclose stamps to that value when you return the package.

Please take care of the cassettes supplied – protect them from dust, heat and humidity, strong magnetic fields etc – members will be asked to bear the cost of replacement of lost or damaged items.

Tapes can also be duplicated from the originals for members to purchase – please ask for a quote, which will depend on the amount of work involved.

NB: Please note that the tapes are supplied for private use only, i.e. by individual Society members, or for private meetings of Society branches or groups.  They must not be used for any kind of public performance.
