2009

Portsmouth Historic Dock: Saturday 16 May
We had a wonderful day in Portsmouth – it was bright and breezy and steeped in history;  we had ample time to see Mary Rose and Victory and the fascinating museums.  There is an account of the day in the September 2009 Bulletin.

South Wales: Friday 10 July to Tuesday 14 July
Our long weekend, based in Swansea, although enjoyed by all, was rather wet, except for our day in the heart of Tudor territory on Sunday – perhaps he was trying to win us over.  We visited Caerphilly Castle on Friday afternoon (dull and overcast); a tour around the Gower Peninsular on Saturday morning (misty) and the afternoon in Swansea (torrential rain); on Sunday, a whistle-stop visit to Milford Haven, Pembroke and Tenby (lovely, sunny day); Monday to St David’s (torrential rain); Tuesday in Cardiff (dry but a bit dull).  A full account is in the December 2009 Bulletin.

Bosworth Battlefield and Memorial Service: Sunday 23 August
A fine and sunny day for our annual pilgrimage.

Croyland Abbey and Peterborough: Saturday 5 September
Another bright and breezy day for our visit to the small fenland village of Crowland, the site of medieval Croyland, in whose abbey the famous Chronicle was written.  Splendid lunch provided by the local WI (even white roses on the tables), then on to Peterborough for a look round the Cathedral, which is always a pleasure.  A full account is in the December 2009 Bulletin.

Fotheringhay Christmas Lunch and Carol Service: Saturday 12 December
As always, a lovely start to the Christmas season, with good food and traditional carols and readings.
